What does a guardian do?

There are two types of guardians: a guardian of the person and a guardian of the property. The guardian of the person has physical custody of the incapacitated person. They take care of that person’s activities of daily living. The guardian of the property handles more financial matters. Now that can be the same person who handles both custody and financial matters, but in either case, the guardian is a person with a fiduciary duty, which is very high duty of care and that person is supervised by the court after they’re appointed.
