When is a guardianship necessary?

Guardianship can be necessary when there hasn’t really been much advanced planning and a senior is incapacitated. If you do advanced planning, a lot of times, there’s no need for a guardianship proceeding. But if a senior’s incapacitated and can’t handle his or her own financial affairs, at that point, it’s usually necessary for adult children to step in to be named guardians so they can take care of the parent’s business.
